MAUSOLEUM
A Mediterranean
style Mausoleum being the largest of its type, was officially opened on
the 24th October 1999. The modern two-level building, located in the Preston
Public Cemetery incorporates traditional Italian-style design elements
and features. Features within the new stylish complex include a chapel
and bell tower, a porte cochere, verandahs, rendered surfaces and terracotta
roof tiles.
The Mausoleum
contains over 3,000 crypts, catering for one to four interments, with
the majority of crypts designed for two interments. The building design
is innovative as all the crypts are contained inside the structure and
none exposed to external elements.
With the
use of natural light through skylights and large glazed arch windows,
the interior of the Mausoleum provides a very spacious and ethereal Ambiance.
The upper levels of the building is fully carpeted and the crypts on this
level feature a special 'style and rail' system that is unique to the
Preston Public Cemetery. The lower level has polished granite floors featuring
a decorative patterned design and the crypts on this level feature the
more traditional crypt cladding system.
The Mausoleum
features 24 hour access to relatives of the deceased through a state-of-the
-art security system, using personalized key card access and after dark
lighting sensors within the complex. This combined with Preston Public
Cemetery's street lighting and security patrols, ensures the safety of
visitors to the Mausoleum after dark. |
